About UK Number Plates

My Showplates provide an online facility for the purchase of number plates and show plates. Number plates as defined by the DVLA in the UK mainland and the DVA in Northern Ireland are for use on the road and must comply to the design rules laid down by those authorities who govern the use of number plates. here's a short guide to help you when designing plates online using our number plate designer page

Number plates for use on the road must conform to the following:

Fonts used must be confined to Standard Number Plate Font (otherwise known as Laser Charles Wright) or Hi-Line, 3D and Carbon fonts. Font colour should be 'Black' and no colour option beyond the default setting is legal. Legal side badges are limited to GB Euro, Welsh or Scottish symbols. The spacing employed should be one single click of your space bar between main registration blocks. For example A21<space>ABC or AA55<space>ABC. No background images are permitted but a border of any colour can be added. The British Standard details must also be shown to include the name and postcode of the number plate makers. An example is shown below.

Number plates that do not meet the DVLA/DVA regulations should not legally be used on the road and the customer is responsible for their use. However show plates are supplied for use in car showrooms, custom car meetings and shows or as signs for interior or exterior use. An example is shown below.
